Swedish Lucia Celebration

Atlanta’s Nordic Lodge #708 Presents A Traditional Sankta Lucia celebration

The candlelit, music-filled celebration will consist of traditional and contemporary Swedish Christmas music. The evening will feature the St. Lucia choir with children, women and men from the Swedish community. The performance will be conducted by Mia Peters with piano accompaniment by Rand Lines.

The St. Lucia tradition is celebrated in Sweden and to some extent in other Scandinavian countries. A young Lucia wears a long white gown with a red sash and a crown of lighted candles and is attended by a group of singing attendants in festive holiday costumes. Lucia would offer saffron buns and gingersnaps as well as coffee to everyone she saw in the morning of the official Lucia day; December 13th.

After the celebration a reception featuring coffee and sweets will be offered in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
